If you are like me who has already listened to the whole series, you are probably wondering what happens in book 2. Well, you will be surprised. I have found that this book is going to be a great addition to your library.
Yes, it’s quite the book. So much so that it might be a little jarring to find it on your shelf, but the good thing is that the story is so fast paced you will probably be able to put it down before book 3 begins.
The beginning of the book is full of exposition and character development. Now, it is probably not the best way to tell a story, but it does allow for some of the character’s backstory to be revealed.
The story is divided into two parts: part one, The End of the World and part two, The Beginning. In the first part, we learn that the Visionaries have made a deal to kill us all and let us live on as an eternal buffet for all the baddies to feast on. The second part of the story reveals that the Visionaries have somehow been infected by something and that Colt is the only one who can save us.
On the plus side, the fact that the book ends with us being saved by Colt’s time-looping abilities is nice. On the other hand, the fact that it ends with him saying that he’s the only one who can fix the time loop is not so great.
The book also ends with Colt saying that he is not the only one who can fix the time loop. So in the next book, the Visionaries will have to fix that. The books can’t end with us being saved by Colt, however, because that’s the entire point of the first book. The book ends with us being saved by Colt, which would make the book pointless.
Yes, the third book is called Deathloop and it will be filled with the same plot-lines. But it ends with Colt saying that he will never be the cause of a time loop in our history. The books, and the game, were meant to be about us fixing the time loop. You have to have both time-loops and time-lovers in your game to get it to work.
And so it ends. We have no idea what happened to Colt, and we have no idea why the time loop has been repeating for so long. We have no clue what we can do to fix it. We won’t know what happens in book 3 until we beat the game, but if we’re lucky we might get a hint on what to do next.
The ending of Deathloop was supposed to be an ending, meant to be our final chapter in the two-part series. I think we were supposed to be the final chapter. But there was no plot, just the idea of a time loop with no explanation. (We’re still not sure why the time loop is happening.) This game won’t be about us fixing that time loop.
We do know that it’s not the ending of the game. It’s the beginning of the next arc of the series. But that’s not the point. Instead, the point is that Deathloop is finally over. The time loop is over and that means there is no more time loop. It’s a way that the universe has decided that it’s time to end, and it’s finally our turn.
