So we know that we are all, to some degree, self-aware.

And yet we are often unaware of it.

I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that the reason we don’t seem to notice when our internal dialogue and actions are being controlled by our autopilot is because we don’t know what it is we’re doing in the first place. Our actions are all unconscious, but we don’t seem to realize that. For example, I’ve been playing Dark Souls lately. Over the past month or so, I’ve been killing off enemies and then just watching the screen for a while.

The difference between that and a game like Dark Souls is that in Dark Souls, you can actually see what you’re doing if you’re playing a higher-level game. But in the case of Dark Souls, you cant see it unless you’re playing the game.

We are in a strange time in the world of video game design. We have the first truly immersive game on the market, and we have a virtual character that plays a game like Dark Souls. But we also have a virtual garden that you can access from the menu. Thats great, because the game is so immersive that the character and the garden seem to be really two separate things.

The game has you planting, watering, and tending a garden of various plants. As you do this you will encounter a giant tree that is about to fall. If you don’t save yourself before this happens, the tree will crush you and you will die. The Garden is actually a simulation of the real world. You can control how the tree is balanced, and you can see that if you plant a few more trees, the tree will fall.

The game is also a time machine, meaning you can look back through the game’s story to see how your garden came to be. A lot of the game’s design is inspired by movies and books. The game offers a “story mode,” which lets you look back through the game’s story to see how you came to be in your garden.
